The Jewish wedding band is an important cultural symbol for those of the Jewish faith. First, the circle of the ring is unending. This shows that the love of a husband and a wife for each other is unending.
Secondly, the ring is special in that it is made of a solid piece of gold. This symbolizes that nothing is to cut into the relationship between a man and a woman.
Thirdly, the ring should be totally unadorned. This symbolizes that the relationship should be unmarred and conflict free.
Fourth, a Jewish marriage is not considered final until the man gives the woman a valuable piece of property. In modern days, this has been seen as the wedding band.
Fifth, the ring shows all that the woman is taken. This is important as other people will know to leave the person alone.
The ring should fit perfectly on the ring finger. Traditionally, Jews believed that there was a vein that ran from the tip of this finger directly to the heart.
It is important that the ring be given in the presence of witnesses. The witnesses are bearing witness to the fact that the two are becoming one and sharing each other’s spiritual strengths, making each person stronger.
